Magna opens new seating factory in Czech Republic
Austrian automotive supplier Magna International, recently opened a new production plant in the Czech Republic, where workers will be producing car seats for BMW.
Magna has decided to open its 16th European factory in the Czech town of Chomutov, while also conducting business in 50 other locations worldwide. This is, in fact, the company’s 5th plant in the Czech Republic alone and will focus on making seating systems, in various configurations, for BMW vehicles.
‘This is a big win for our employees as well as our community, where we are making a positive economic impact. Our facility is using the latest technology with special attention given to high flexibility so that we can react quickly to new developments and changing requirements of our customers’, according to the General Manager of Chomutov Seating, Martin Polívka.
The factory will use smart-plant manufacturing concepts in order to increase efficiency and quality output for its customers. The plant’s production area measures 6,000 square meters, enough space to make around 360,000 seat sets per year.
Furthermore, the opening of this new site has created 150 jobs for the local population, with plans to add 150 more in 2019.
